45 YEARS OF IMPACT, DISCOVERY, AND HOPE

Terry challenged our nation to believe in his dream of a world without cancer. Today, 45 years later, we don’t just share Terry’s dream, we’re relentlessly pursuing it.

Together with our remarkable community of donors, volunteers, participants, fundraisers, scientists, survivors, and partners, we’re united by a single goal: to finish cancer. And it’s fair to say our entire community crushed it last year.

  • You helped us invest $60.6M in 218 projects being conducted by 604 of Canada’s very best cancer scientists (the most ever) at 71 partner institutions across the country.
  • The Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network finished the fiscal year with over 8,000 genomes sequenced, moving closer to creatingthe largest, most complete cancer case resource in Canada.
  • Applications for TFRI’s highly-coveted Research Program Grants awards have almost doubled.
  • Through our extremely competitive New Frontiers Program Project Grants, Terry Fox is currently funding 268 of Canada’s top scientists in 21 projects, the most ever.
  • Our New Investigator Awards set a record high-water mark by investing $2.3M in 21 awardees. And we are now supporting 58 early-career researchers across our programs to foster the next generation of scientists and clinicians.
  • A record 10,000 schools registered for the Terry Fox School Run, helping students learn about leadership, compassion, and giving back.

Today, the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network and the Digital Health and Discovery Platform add additional horsepower to the pace of discovery. Factor in emerging technology, like big data and AI, and we’re leading the way to a golden age for cancer research and for personalized, precision oncology.

As you read this year’s Report, keep in mind that these breakthroughs and initiatives are only possible with the incredible leadership and creativity of our scientists; with radical and relentless collaboration; and with you.

It’s been 45 years since the Marathon of Hope. But Terry continues to be a beacon of hope and optimism. And he continues to inspire us to finish his marathon against cancer.

Thank you for being with us on the journey. This is how we finish it.
